Manchester United could move for Igor Thiago if Joshua Zirkzee leaves

Manchester United recently reached an agreement to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

United are still expected to sign at least one more midfielder, while they are also looking to strengthen the left-back and left-wing positions.

The Red Devils could also sign a new striker if Joshua Zirkzee heads for the exit door.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now namechecked Brentford striker Igor Thiago as a potential target.

He told the United Stand: “While it’s very initial and player-led at this stage, Man United are just starting to look at the market in the older and more experienced category of strikers – with one or two exceptions like Igor Thiago – in case Joshua Zirkzee leaves.”

Thiago enjoyed a brilliant campaign with Brentford last season, finishing second in the Premier League scoring charts. He netted 25 goals across all competitions.

However, eight of his 22 top-flight goals came from the penalty spot. He ranked in the 47th percentile for non-penalty goals in the league.

Thiago completed 55 percent of his dribbles last term, but was non-existent when it came to creativity and chance creation in the final third.

The Brazilian still has five years remaining on his contract, meaning Brentford are expected to demand a hefty fee for him.

With his expected huge valuation and limitations, United should not pursue a move for him.

The Mancunian giants should sign an all-round attacker who is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline.
