Manchester United enter the race to sign 20-goal Premier League forward: report

Manchester United are reportedly in the running to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been reluctant to extend his contract with fellow Premier League side Arsenal.

A right winger remains one of United’s priorities for the next transfer window but the club have been linked with a number of high-profile strikers in recent weeks including Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, United have now been credited with an interest in Aubameyang but they face plenty of competition with Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona also vying for his signature.

Aubameyang has been a consistent performer for the Gunners since his switch from Borussia Dortmund in 2018 and he has netted 61 times from just 97 appearances – 20 of which have come during the current season.

He could leave the Gunners during the summer with his contract expiring in 14 months’ time and it remains to be seen whether the United hierarchy will make a serious attempt to land him.

Aubameyang would ideally suit United with his ability to excel from counter-attacking situations and he is comfortable playing as a left-sided winger or as the main striker of the team.

With his current contract situation, Sport claims that he could be available for around £43.5m (€50m) but there are some risks associated for United with a move for the Gabon international.

Aubameyang will turn 31 by the beginning of next season and besides this, he would expect a significant increase on his current £200,000-a-week wages at the north London side.

Should Aubameyang prove a success, it could turn out to be another Robin van Persie-like deal for United but on the down side, it could be an exact opposite as experienced with Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from the Emirates.

The Chilean has been a shadow of himself since his move to Old Trafford in January 2018 and United are currently in a situation where they can’t sanction his permanent departure due to his hefty wages.
