Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Krzysztof Piatek from AC Milan during the current transfer window.
The Red Devils have recruited no players since the beginning of the year but that could change before the winter transfer deadline next week.
According to The Athletic, the club have ‘made contact’ with the Rossoneri regarding a loan move for Piatek as they seek to strengthen their options in the forward department.
It is added that the Red Devils made the approach prior to Marcus Rashford’s injury but their prospects of signing Piatek may depend on whether they are willing to accept the obligation to buy for £30m in the summer.
Rashford has generally featured on the left side of the attack for United in recent months but he has still been the key contributor in the attack, having registered 19 goals and five assists across all competitions.
His injury absence due to a stress fracture has been felt in the past few games where Anthony Martial has struggled to find the net with clear-cut chances on offer and that should increase the need for a new striker.
Piatek bagged 30 goals for Genoa and AC Milan combined last season but he has struggled to find the same consistency this campaign and has netted just five times in 19 appearances for the Rossoneri.
Considering this, a loan option for the Poland international seems a safe option for United this month but it remains to be seen whether they will accept the Rossoneri’s demands for a compulsory buy-clause.
