Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier whose contract expires during the summer.
The Belgium international was regularly linked with the Red Devils in the past under ex-boss Jose Mourinho due to his admiration for the club.
That did not necessarily materialise into a transfer to Old Trafford but L’Equipe claims that the Red Devils have now made contact with the player’s representatives.
The 28-year-old could be a free-agent at the end of the current season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have joined the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Juventus in the player’s pursuit.
Under Mourinho, United lacked the presence of a quality right-back in the squad and they were associated with Meunier due to his impressive attacking qualities.
However, much has changed since then with Aaron Wan-Bissaka establishing himself in the position while Diogo Dalot has acted as a quality back-up option for the England youth international.
As a result, Meunier’s prospects of commanding consistent gametime appear slim and it would come as a surprise, if he opts to join the club in the current situation.
Solskjaer may be tempted to land Meunier on a Bosman move with his ability to play anywhere on the right side of the field but the need for regular first-team football could see him move elsewhere.
