Manchester United eager to finish the Premier League season with a flourish

Manchester United will head into the final month of the season with their sights firmly set on securing Champions League qualification.

Intriguingly, the Red Devils could still win the Premier League title, although it would require an unlikely combination of results for that to happen.

Bettors with 1xbet official access may feel there is more value in backing United to book a place in the Champions League by winning at Old Trafford this weekend.

With that in mind, read on as we look at what is on the agenda for the Manchester giants in May, starting with the blockbuster clash with bitter rivals Liverpool.

Manchester United vs Liverpool – Sunday, May 3

While United and Liverpool will both end the season without winning a major trophy, there is still plenty riding on the game at Old Trafford.

United are the bookmakers’ favourites to pick up three points, which would guarantee their place in the 2026/27 Champions League.

A victory for Liverpool would move them up to third place in the standings and give them something to crow about after a thoroughly dismal title defence.

The Red Devils triumphed 2-1 in the reverse fixture at Anfield earlier in the season and are a good bet to complete the double on Sunday.

Sunderland vs Manchester United – Saturday, May 9

Sunderland have fared best of the three clubs promoted from the Championship and still have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe.

However, they bore all the hallmarks of a team that had run out of steam in their emphatic 5-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

They have won eight and drawn five of their 17 league fixtures at the Stadium of Light this season, which is a solid record for a newly-promoted club.

However, United’s away record this season is respectable, and they can reward punters who wager on them to win this fixture.

Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest – Sunday, May 17

Forest have spent the season at the wrong end of the table and are still in danger of dropping into the Championship with four games remaining.

However, they have demonstrated their quality in the Europa League by progressing to the semi-finals. They will face Aston Villa in the last four.

If Forest reach the final, this fixture may be moved to Friday, May 15, to allow them to prepare for the showpiece occasion in Istanbul.

Regardless of what happens in the Europa League, United are strongly fancied to finish their home games for the season on a winning note.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United – Sunday, May 24

Brighton & Hove Albion have been a bogey team for United in recent seasons, winning seven of their last ten meetings in all competitions.

The Red Devils should have secured Champions League qualification by the time this game is played, but Brighton may still require points to book their place in Europe.

If that is the scenario, wagering on United would be fraught with danger. Brighton are tough to beat at the Amex Stadium and will fancy their chances of winning the game.

If the Seagulls have already qualified for Europe or need just a point to get over the line, backing the draw would be a shrewd play.
