James Rodriguez wants a Premier League move.
Rodriguez was a guest on the podcast of motivational speaker Daniel Habif, during which he expressed his desire of making a summer move to the Premier League.
“I’ve already been in several good leagues and the only thing missing is Serie A and the Premier League. You have to see where I want to go or where they want me to go,’ Rodriguez explained.
“Going to England would be a good thing, it’s a top league.“
Rodriguez made a mere five appearances in La Liga last season. He moved to Real Madrid six years ago but spent two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich before returning to Bernabeu last season.
The Colombian midfielder, who was the star of the 2014 World Cup but has since become Real Madrid’s forgotten man, is widely speculated to finally leave the Bernabeu this summer.
This is Madrid’s last opportunity to cash in on him, given his contract expires in July next year. Real, however, are set to make a large loss on the £60m they paid for him six years ago.
On the subject of not getting enough playing time under Zidane, the 29-year-old insisted that Zidane is a respectful coach though he does not seem to be a part of the manager’s good books.
‘He [Zidane] has his own tastes for some players and he is respectable,’ claimed Rodriguez.
‘I don’t get involved there. When you see that you don’t have the same opportunities as your team-mates, it’s difficult. I wanted to leave and the club wouldn’t let me leave.’
‘I wanted to go where I could have played, I knew I would not have opportunities, because Zidane already had his base. My wish was that the fans would have the memory of my previous stage at Madrid, not this… I did 36 goals and 42 assists ‘, continued Rodriguez.
Reports suggest Real Madrid are looking to raise €200m from player sales this window, Having already sold Achraf Hakimi, the Galacticos are willing to sell Rodriguez for a bargain £23m.
Arsenal are said to be showing ‘the most’ interest in the Colombia international, while his representatives have already held talks with folks at Manchester United.
Everton are one such club Rodriguez could go to. Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti previously managed him at Real Madrid and the duo produced brilliant results. They could reunite but Rodriguez’s wage will disrupt Everton’s wage structure. United, on the other hand, will have no problem with it.
Rodriguez turned 29 last month and is supposed to be in his peak years. Splashing £23m for him should be a no-brainer for the Reds.
