Diogo Dalot has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford this season.
The 37-year-old missed the Red Devils’ pre-season tour due to family reasons.
He has made it clear that he wants to leave Old Trafford in order to play in the Champions League. His agent has been trying to find him a new club but Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have all decided not to sign him.
The Portuguese star has recently been heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid who are said to be interested in securing his services.
However, his teammate Diogo Dalot has urged Ronaldo to remain at the Manchester club.
“I think Cristiano is important for us,” he said (as per The Mirror). “What we know is he is going through some family issues, we hope everything is OK and that’s how we do.”
Dalot set to play an important role this season
Diogo Dalot joined Manchester United from Porto in 2018 in a deal worth around £19 million.
The 23-year-old initially struggled for playing time at Old Trafford and was loaned out to AC Milan for the 2020-21 campaign. However, he made a strong comeback last season and established himself as United’s first-choice right-back.
The Portuguese also started the Red Devils’ first four pre-season games ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and was highly impressive with his performances.
Dalot is a top-class full-back who is known for his aerial duels, tackling ability and ball interception. He is solid defensively but also has attacking capabilities.
Last season, he averaged an impressive 2.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game in the Premier League (as per WhoScored).
The 23-year-old has performed consistently on the pre-season tour so far, and he has done enough to impress Dutch boss Erik ten Hag. He is set to play an important role at United this season.
