Express reports that Manchester United could turn their attention to Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante if they are given the green light from the London Based team.
Chelsea have signed a group of top players and could look to add defensive reinforcements to their side. The signings of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell this summer is going to set them back for cash.
Frank Lampard is a fan of English midfielder Declan Rice and the Blues are linked to him for a very long time. The area of goalkeeping is also a concern for Chelsea, with Kepa not having the confidence of the manager and back-up keeper Willy Caballero turning 39 this month.
N’Golo Kante has been a consistent performer for the London team since he arrived from Leicester City and has been one of the top defensive midfielders in the world for the past few seasons.
As per Transfermarkt, Kante is valued at £72m.
His injury-hit last season irked the Chelsea manager and he is hoping to raise some cash by selling the midfielder.
Kante has been linked to European giants Real Madrid and Inter Milan. Real’s financial strength is weak and they are raising funds. Additionally, there is no space for Kante as Casemiro is an undisputed starter for the Spanish giants.
Inter’s Sporting Director Piero Ausilio spoke to Italian broadcaster SportItalia and confirmed that they are not going to sign Kante this summer. He accepted that they don’t have the financial muscle for it.
This could be the time when Manchester United swoop in.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer could use a midfielder like Kante to handle the defensive side of the game. The arrival of Bruno Fernandes has energized the team. The addition of Donny Van de Beek to the team is also a welcome boost for Solksjaer. Along with Van de Beek, Fernandes and Paul Pogba, Kante could help OGS build one of the best midfield partnerships in Europe.
Chelsea’s transfer dealings in the past have shown that they are not afraid of selling their star players to direct competitors. The sale of Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata to Manchester United is proof of that fact.
This provides a golden opportunity for United to sign the world cup winner with no big club competing with them.
