Manchester United could reportedly miss out on the chance of signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, suppose they are unable to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The 20-year-old has been widely tipped to make a return to England during the summer and United have recently been deemed as the favourites to sign him ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.
However, according to The Sun, that does not appear the case and Sancho will want the guarantee of Champions League football next term in order to make the move to Old Trafford.
United are currently fifth in the league and that would assure them of qualification to the elite competition, provided Manchester City are unable to completely overturn their two-year European ban through the CAS.
On the other hand, they are virtually into the last eight of the Europa League and winning the European trophy would provide them with another route into the Champions League group stage next term.
At present, the campaign has been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic and it is unclear when the season will resume, given the health and safety concerns of the people across the globe.
A potential void of the season would see United miss out on Europe’s premier competition but that is definitely not an option at the moment, given that would result in heavy financial losses for almost every club.
