Manchester United have officially announced that Tahith Chong has penned a fresh three-year contract with the club with the option for another 12 months.
The 20-year-old’s future has been the subject of regular speculation in recent months but the Red Devils have now confirmed that he has put pen-to-paper on a contract extension.
“Manchester United is delighted to announce that Tahith Chong has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2022, with the option to extend for a further year,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
Chong’s representative had been in discussions with Inter Milan at the beginning of the year and Fabrizio Romano recently suggested that Dutchman could join them on a free transfer at the completion of his United deal in June.
However, the Red Devils have eventually managed to finalise a new contract with Chong and that should please the fans as the forward is still regarded as one of the most promising players in the club’s Under-23 setup.
Unlike Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams, Chong has not been able to cement a regular role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term and he could benefit from a loan stint where he is assured with first-team football.
Chong has not quite made the impression with the chances offered this season. He has been restricted to less than 500 minutes of action across all competitions where he has contributed a single assist, as per whoscored.
