Manchester United are facing the prospect of losing the services of Angel Gomes to Chelsea this summer, a report from The Mirror claims.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising young players at United but he has yet to establish himself with the first-team squad.
Gomes has made only 10 appearances since his senior debut in 2017 and out of those, six of them have come during the current campaign.
According to The Mirror, the teenager has declined a new £30,000-a-week deal with the Red Devils and he could leave as a free-agent when his contract expires at the end of next month.
Furthermore, his agent Pini Zahavi is understood to have opened negotiations with Blues’ director Marina Granovskaia over a Bosman transfer during the summer.
Gomes has barely featured under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term and he has managed less than 300 minutes of playing time from his six first-team appearances.
As a result, he has been reluctant to put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal and United are now facing a race against time to prolong his stay beyond June.
United were able to convince Tahith Chong to sign an extension in March despite him going through a similar situation but Gomes has yet to follow suit.
As things stand, there is a realistic possibility of Gomes moving to Stamford Bridge. Some United fans could be disappointed, if the forward develops into a top player in the long-run.
