Manchester United will have the chance of signing Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, should they make a world-record £200m bid during the next transfer window.
The England international is regarded as one of world’s best strikers and he has netted 181 goals in just 278 appearances for Spurs across all competitions.
Despite his impressive scoring record, the north London side have not won any silverware for more than a decade and Kane has recently refused to rule out an exit from the club.
In recent weeks, United have been regularly credited with an interest in the striker and The Mail claims that the club will have the opportunity of luring the 26-year-old to Old Trafford.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is said to have been annoyed with Kane opening up about his future plans while he is also concerned over the financial repercussions for the club amid the coronavirus pandemic.
As such, it is claimed that Levy would consider the sale of Kane to the Red Devils during the summer, provided the Mancunian giants are willing to pay a world-record £200m fee.
Earlier this week, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer indicated that the club are in a strong financial position and they shouldn’t be hampered by the ongoing global crisis.
Still, it is claimed that the Norwegian would have only a £150m pre-sales budget to spend on new signings and meeting Spurs’ asking price for Kane would mean that the club may not make any other purchases.
A striker of Kane’s calibre would definitely enhance United’s prospects of competing at the top of the league next season but it is unlikely that the club will pay such a huge amount for the Three Lions captain.
Kane has been one of the Premier League’s leading strikers over the past five-and-a-half years but he has missed around 33 games due to injuries in the second half of the current and previous season.
