Manchester United boss raves about Scott McTominay after Watford victory

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed Scott McTominay after his impressive performance in the 1-0 victory over Watford in the FA Cup.

The Norwegian boss called him a ‘monster of a human being’ after the 24-year-old’s header earned them a narrow victory at Old Trafford.

The Manchester side bounced back with a win after their Carabao Cup exit at the hands of fierce rivals Manchester City, with John Stones and Fernandinho both getting on the score-sheet to win the fixture by 2-0.

McTominay, who was wearing the captain’s armband for the first time, put his side in a dominating position within the opening five minutes with a bouncing header.

However, the Red Devils failed to build on that goal and squandered several scoring opportunities later in the match. They looked very lucky to come away with a win after Adam Masina came extremely close to score an equaliser.

For Donny van de Beek and Mason Greenwood, this game offered a brilliant opportunity to bolster their claims for a regular place in the team, however, both players failed to shine at the Theatre of Dreams.

It was McTominay whose standout performance ultimately proved to be the difference for the Premier League heavyweights who will now head to the fourth round of the FA Cup. This season, the 24-year-old has clocked up 14 league appearances, scoring two goals and creating one assist.

Solskjaer was full of praise for the midfielder after the match.

“Scott has had a very good season,” he told BBC Match of the Day.

“He is being more and more dangerous, we know he can be a box-to-box midfielder.

“He should have scored a few more on set-plays before now because he is a monster of a human being. I am very happy he got the goal.”
