Manchester United boost as Chelsea dealt fresh double injury blow ahead of Friday game

Manchester United travel to London to take on Chelsea on Friday and have been handed a boost as the Blues are set to be without two key players for the Premier League game.

The Stamford Bridge club are fighting for a top-five finish but have been handed a double injury blow as Reece James and Christopher Nkunku were absent today from training at Cobham, according to Sky Sports.

It is good news for Man United, who are hoping to pick up enough points in order not to finish the league in 17th place, and head coach Ruben Amorim will fancy their chances of leaving London with a result three days from now.

James featured against Newcastle United last weekend but will be unavailable, and Chelsea have a big headache on their hands with their only recognised striker Nicolas Jackson also set to be unavailable against the Red Devils after picking up a red card last time out.

A win against Chelsea will serve as a much-needed boost for Man United as it is their last game before the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on May 21.

The Red Devils are desperate to march to victory against Spurs as it is their only chance of playing in the Champions League next season, and they need to put up a good game against the Blues to be in the perfect state of mind ahead of the trip to Spain.

They are without a win in their last seven league games, suffering five defeats, and another loss on Friday will push them closer to finishing just a spot above the relegated trio.

Man United held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw the last time they met last November at Old Trafford, and they have what it takes to leave Stamford Bridge with at least a point.
