Manchester United are in contact with agent of £98m forward – Fabrizio Romano

Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are in contact with the representative of Jadon Sancho but have yet to make a formal approach to Borussia Dortmund for the player’s services.

Sancho has been fancied to make the return to England during the next transfer window and he has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea this month, aside from United.

The Red Devils have been deemed as the favourites to land his signature but Romano suggests that the deal is far from straightforward with Dortmund reluctant to accept anything less than £98m (€110m) for the attacker.

He added that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have made contact with Sancho’s agent but there has been no official bid on the table to sign the England international from the Bundesliga outfit.

The current season has witnessed an untimely shutdown to the coronavirus pandemic and that is expected to hamper any transfer discussions, given the focus will remain on the welfare of the public in the coming months.

As such, it is unlikely that there will be any progress in the Red Devils’ pursuit of Sancho but it is quite clear that the club will have to break their transfer record to sign the 20-year-old ahead of next season.

The £98m fee should be within United’s budget but Solskjaer faces the prospect of utilising the majority of the transfer funds to sign the former Manchester City graduate.

The departures of potential outcasts such as Chris Smalling, Alexis Sanchez and Phil Jones will boost the transfer kitty but United could be restricted to a couple of marquee signings.

Aside from Sancho, the club have recently been credited with a surprise swoop for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez. The Spaniard may not be sold by the Madrid giants unless his hefty £135m buy-out clause is triggered.
