Transfer Rumours

Manchester United are front-runners to hijack €30m Liverpool target

ESPN reports that Bayern Munich have invited Manchester United to negotiate for Thiago Alcantara.

Prior to this report, Fabrizio Romano reported that United have held talks with Thiago’s agents.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge publicly said that they are expecting a €30m bid from Liverpool for Thiago. If they don’t react proactively, Thiago could join other clubs too. The 29-year-old wants to move to Premier League. Liverpool are refusing to pay the €30m asking price.

Jurgen Klopp wants Thiago and is pushing for a move but will have to wait as the Merseyside club look to offload Gini Wijnaldum to Barcelona.

Barcelona’s finances are badly hit and Wijnaldum wants to stay at Anfield. Wijnaldum’s contract expires in 12 months and Guardian reports that both Liverpool and Wijnaldum had held positive talks over the extension.

Bayern wants to sell Thiago. Liverpool are not ready to pay the price and cannot make room for another midfielder to play. Advantage Manchester United.

Reliable journalist Sam Pilger also reports that United have an active interest in Thiago and the club hopes a deal could be done. He adds that the Spaniard’s wages could be a problem.

Thiago played a major role in Bayern’s treble winning season. He made 40 appearances and looked as a midfield maestro alongwith Joshua Kimmich in a double pivot.

Yesterday, United officially announced Donny Van de Beek’s signing. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer likes Thiago but Jadon Sancho remains their top priority.
