Manchester United have finally reached an agreement with Inter Milan over the sale of defender Ashley Young, a report from Sky Sports News has revealed.
The 34-year-old has been fancied to join the Nerazzurri over the past 10 days, having already entered the final six months of his contract with the Red Devils.
Young recently turned down the option of signing a one-year extension with United and it now appears that the club have taken the decision to sanction his departure.
The England international has been utilised on either side of the central defenders but he was mostly played at left-back during the opening months of the campaign.
However, with the emergence of Brandon Williams, his gametime has drastically reduced and this seems to have eventually paved the way for him to pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere.
A fee of around £1.3m has been agreed with Inter for Young’s sale but United could receive additional fees, particularly if the Nerazzurri are able to win the Serie A title.
With the departure of Young, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will definitely announce a new club-captain and Harry Maguire is one of the leading candidates for the role.
United are unlikely to look for any defensive cover after Young’s exit with Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw present to provide back-up to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams in the right and left-back spots respectively.
Marcos Rojo is another candidate available for the left-back role, but the Argentine could be heading through the exit door this month with the apparent interest from Sporting and Fenerbahce.
