Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Feyenoord star Tyrell Malacia.
The Red Devils were in the market for a new left-back to provide competition for Luke Shaw, with Alex Telles deemed surplus to requirements this season and Alvaro Fernandez considered too young to be promoted directly into first-team football.
They identified the Netherlands international as a good fit but Lyon were also in contention for him.
However, it appears United have won the race for the 22-year-old as the Premier League giants have agreed personal terms with Feyenoord, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The two clubs are reportedly set to sign a contract worth €15 million plus €2m in add-ons for the left-back.
The reputed journalist has also claimed that United are preparing a bid for Ajax star Lisandro Martinez.
They will be in a race with Arsenal who have had several bids rejected but have no intention to give up on the Argentine footballer.
The Red Devils will be pushing for a move once they get the Malacia deal over the line.
Our View
Tyrell Malacia is an academy graduate of Feyenoord who progressed through its youth ranks to earn his senior debut in December 2017 against Napoli.
He showed great progress over the years as he became a hugely important member of the Dutch team.
The 2021-22 season was his best as he started 32 matches in the Eredivisie, scoring a goal and creating five assists in the process (stats from Transfermarkt).
The talented left-back made an impressive 2.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per game in the Dutch top-flight last season. He also averaged an impressive 1.6 shots and 1.1 key passes per game in the Eredivisie (as per WhoScored).
Erik ten Hag has a reputation of developing young players into world-beaters. Malacia is only 22 and we could see him improving his game under the guidance of the Dutch manager.
And if United manage to beat Arsenal to the signing of Martinez as well as secure Frenkie de Jong’s signing, then this would be considered a successful transfer window for the club.
Malacia is expected to be a great signing for Man Utd, but is only the first step this summer for the club.
