Manchester United ace attracting interest from two European clubs : report

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic could be the subject of interest from both Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year, a report from Turkish outlet Fanatik claims.

The Serbia international has fallen down the pecking order at United this season and he has been restricted to just three appearances in the Premier League and six overall in all competitions.

Owing to this, he has been widely fancied to head through the exit door in January and Fanatik reports that Galatasaray and Atletico could go head-to-head in the race to secure his signature.

Matic has not made a single appearance in the Premier League since his return from an unknown injury last month but he has featured for the entire 90 minutes in a Europa League and League Cup game.

Scott McTominay and Fred have generally been the preferred pairing in the centre of the park in recent months and Andreas Pereira has been called up from the bench when required.

As such, Matic’s prospects of breaking into the Premier League XI are definitely slim at the moment, particularly with Paul Pogba expected to command a starting role, once he gets to full fitness.

Matic’s current contract is scheduled to expire at the end of the campaign but United have the option of prolonging his stay for another 12 months through an extension clause on his deal.

The club will definitely trigger the clause to preserve his transfer value and it remains to be seen whether Solskjaer has a replacement in mind, suppose Matic leaves at the midway stage of the season.
