Manchester United registered a fantastic 3-2 comeback win over Nottingham Forest in their third Premier League game of the 2023/24 campaign.
Erik ten Hag made three changes to his side that lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Christian Eriksen, Diogo Dalot and Anthony Martial replaced Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Alejandro Garnacho.
The visitors scored twice within the first four minutes to stun the Old Trafford crowd.
Goals from Eriksen and Casemiro brought Man United back into the game.
Forest skipper Joe Worrall received his marching orders after he brought Bruno Fernandes down, denying the Portuguese a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Fernandes completed the comeback for United with a 76th-minute penalty.
Player Ratings:
Andre Onana – 4/10
The Cameroonian should have done better for the opening goal of the game. He went down too fast, making it easy for Taiwo Awoniyi to put the ball into the net.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6/10
The 25-year-old was beaten in a crucial aerial duel that led to Forest’s first strike. He performed well going forward, taking advance positions and making overlapping runs on the right flank.
Raphael Varane – 5/10
Provided some good covering challenges with United’s full-backs venturing forward. Replaced at half-time – hopefully, it is nothing serious.
Lisandro Martinez – 6/10
The centre-back saw plenty of the ball and played some fine passes to finish the match with 93% passing accuracy.
Diogo Dalot – 5/10
The Portuguese defender filled in for Luke Shaw at the left-back. He took central positions to put pressure on Forest but failed to add quality.
Casemiro – 6/10
Casemiro failed to mark Willy Boly for the second goal and missed a sitter in the first half. He redeemed himself by bringing the score to parity after the break.
Christian Eriksen – 6/10
The Dane started his first game of the season and commenced United’s comeback by scoring a goal in the 17th minute.
Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
A captain’s performance from the Portuguese playmaker. Fernandes constantly encouraged his teammates and tested Matt Turner three times.
He emphatically scored from the spot to secure three points for his team.
Antony – 7/10
Antony looked dangerous for United and pulled a stunning save from Turner. He created a fine opportunity for Fernandes to score, but the midfielder’s flick shot was off the target.
Marcus Rashford – 7/10
The England international was switched to the left flank and showed why he is most comfortable from that spot. He used his clever movement to win the penalty, which Fernandes scored.
Anthony Martial – 4/10
The Frenchman offered no attacking threat and was rightly hauled off at the hour mark.
Substitutes
Victor Lindelof – 6/10
Solid at the back. He was chosen ahead of Harry Maguire to replace Varane at the break.
Jadon Sancho – 6/10
Another sharp cameo from Sancho. He must start ahead of Martial in the number nine position against Arsenal.
Scott McTominay – NA
Too late to rate.
