Manchester United 3-0 West Ham United: Player ratings as Garnacho and Hojlund show the future is bright

Manchester United registered a convincing 3-0 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag made just one change to the starting XI that defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-3 on Thursday. Harry Maguire returned to the line-up in place of Raphael Varane.

Birthday boy Rasmus Hojlund put the hosts in front midway in the first half.

Alejandro Garnacho added to United’s tally after the break courtesy of a wicked deflection. The 19-year-old put his name on the scoresheet for the second time in the 84th minute to cement the win.

David Moyes’ side had their moments but looked second-best in all departments for most of the game.

Today’s vibrant win takes Man United to sixth spot, eight points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Let’s get into the player ratings:

Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 7/10

A brilliant reflex save to deny West Ham an early lead. One of the rare outings for the shot-stopper where he looked comfortable between the sticks.

Diogo Dalot – 8/10

The Portuguese full-back showed great attacking qualities and made a fantastic block to deny Jarrod Bowen a 1v1 opportunity against Onana.

Harry Maguire – 7/10

The England international showed his fine ball-distribution skills with long balls to Marcus Rashford. His missed kick almost allowed the Hammers to score the equaliser, but Emerson’s poor shot saved Maguire’s day.

Lisandro Martinez – 8/10

Martinez put in another fabulous display at the back. The defender was substituted after he picked up a knee injury.

Luke Shaw – 7/10

The left-back defended his flank robustly and provided support going forward.

Casemiro – 7/10

A brave interception which earned him the assist for United’s opener. He must stop making reckless sliding tackles in every game.

Kobbie Mainoo – 7/10

Ten Hag has unearthed a gem with Mainoo. The starlet continued to impress and received a standing ovation when substituted.

Bruno Fernandes – 7/10

A fine dipping shot early to force a brilliant stop from Alphonse Areola. He did well to find Garnacho in space for the second goal.

Alejandro Garnacho – 9/10

The youngster has now made the right-wing position his own. He scored twice – a fine reward for his hard-working performance.

Marcus Rashford – 7/10

The United academy graduate came close to adding United’s third right after Garnacho doubled the lead. He would be gutted not to score or assist this afternoon.

Rasmus Hojlund – 8/10

The young striker scored for the fourth consecutive time in the Premier League. He fired his shot past Alphonse Areola and celebrated in style.

His link-up play with Rashford and Garnacho is improving, which is a great sign for Man United.

Substitutes

Scott McTominay – 7/10

Another productive cameo for the Scotland international.

He pressured Kalvin Phillips to win the ball and easily found Garnacho for the third goal. He should have scored the fourth goal but dragged his shot wide.

Raphael Varane – 7/10

The Frenchman did well to maintain the clean sheet.

Antony – N/A

Too late to rate.

Victor Lindelof – N/A

Too late to rate.
