Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool: Player ratings as the Red Devils dent Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League title aspirations

Manchester United and Liverpool played out a dramatic 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag replaced Antony with Marcus Rashford in the starting XI. Willy Kambwala was also handed a starting spot amid a defensive crisis.

Luis Diaz volleyed Liverpool into the lead through a corner. The visitors’ dominance was evident from their 15 attempts to United’s none at the end of the first half.

The Red Devils woke up in the second half, with Bruno Fernandes scoring from 40 yards after gathering a misplaced pass from Jarell Quansah.

Kobbie Mainoo’s stunning curling strike enthralled Old Trafford as he put United ahead.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka made a poor sliding challenge on Harvey Elliott inside the box, allowing Mohamed Salah to bring the score to parity from the spot.

Let’s get into the player ratings.

Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 7/10

Onana made one of his best saves of the season in the second minute of the game. He continued to make decent stops to keep United in the game.

Diogo Dalot – 6/10

The Portuguese full-back did a fine job against Luis Diaz in the right-back spot.

Willy Kambwala – 7/10

The youngster showed an excellent recovery pace to track Darwin Nunez after he gave the ball away. He emerged triumphant once again in his clash against the Uruguayan, eliciting thunderous cheers from the home crowd.

Harry Maguire – 7/10

The former United captain displayed immense defensive prowess, anchoring the backline alongside Kambwala.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 3/10

For the second consecutive game, a United left-back conceded a penalty, highlighting a troubling pattern in their defensive play. Dalot was the culprit against Chelsea and Wan-Bissaka made a naive tackle today.

Wan-Bissaka had a decent showing against Salah, but his brain-fade moment with Elliott cost his side two crucial points. He was also guilty of losing Nunez for the opening goal.

Kobbie Mainoo – 7/10

The 18-year-old was not having the best of nights amid the chaos around him. He then produced a moment of magic with a sumptuous curling strike to hand United a lead.

Casemiro – 5/10

Casemiro did well to head a cross into the six-yard box but none of his teammates reacted. However, he looked off the pace, raising concerns about his effectiveness.

Bruno Fernandes – 7/10

Fernandes had numerous ups and downs in the contest.

He should have released a through pass to Alejandro Garnacho much quicker which could have handed United a lead inside two minutes. His chip from the centre circle brought United back into the game.

Marcus Rashford – 5/10

Rashford was more active in defending in the opening minutes but failed to add any quality in attack.

He suffered a knock and was substituted five minutes past the hour mark.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6/10

He was dangerous as an outlet in the first few minutes but faded as Liverpool started dominating the game.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5/10

The former Atalanta striker showed how a striker should press from the front but failed to threaten the visitors. His recent injury has hampered his purple patch.

Substitutes

Antony – 6/10

The Brazilian brought tenacity but was forced to do more defensive work with Liverpool finding their way back.

Sofyan Amrabat – 5/10

This could be Amrabat’s final outing in front of the Old Trafford crowd.

Mason Mount – 6/10

He made a smart tactical foul to deny Liverpool a quick counter-attack at the death.
