Manchester United 1-0 FC Copenhagen: Player ratings as Maguire and Onana star in crucial UCL win

Manchester United finally registered their first Champions League win of the season by beating FC Copenhagen on Tuesday.

It was a must-win clash for the Red Devils after losing to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the first two games.

Erik ten Hag made two changes to his starting line-up. Raphael Varane and Sergio Reguilon replaced Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof, respectively.

Copenhagen started the game strongly and struck the bar in the first half.

The hosts came back with more purpose and determination to win the game after the break.

Former United skipper Harry Maguire headed home to continue his redemption at Old Trafford.

Scott McTominay conceded a penalty to give the visitors a chance to share points with the last kick of the game.

The roof went off after Andre Onana made a spectacular save to ensure his side took three crucial points.

Let’s get into some player ratings.

Player Ratings:

Andre Onana – 8/10

Awful distribution from the back, but he got his moment of redemption by saving the last-minute spot-kick.

Diogo Dalot – 6/10

He tried helping his side by taking attacking positions and making overlapping runs on the right flank.

Raphael Varane – 6/10

A tenacious performance from the veteran. A tough test against Erling Haaland awaits next.

Harry Maguire – 8/10

A Man of the Match performance against Sheffield United last weekend. A match-winning goal tonight to keep Man United in the elite competition.

Sergio Reguilon – 5/10

He looked like a player coming back from an injury.

Sofyan Amrabat – 4/10

He looked off the pace and was sloppy with the ball. Replaced by Christian Eriksen at half-time.

Bruno Fernandes – 7/10

After a dull first 45 minutes, he improved massively in the second half once Ten Hag shifted him to his preferred number 10 spot. He created an excellent one-on-one for Garnacho but the winger was unable to finish.

Scott McTominay – 3/10

McTominay got a headed chance to put the ball in the back of the net but mistimed his jump and shot. He should have put the game to bed in the second half but somehow missed the target.

To make matters worse, he conceded a penalty in the last minute of the game.

Marcus Rashford – 6/10

Rashford was cut a frustrating figure for most of the game. He had his good moments but not consistent enough to cause havoc on the wings.

He played terrific ball to set up a half chance for Hojlund. However, his first touch let him down when Eriksen played him through.

Rasmus Hojlund – 6/10

The striker looked threatening and showed good hold-up play. However, goals are still hard to come by.

Antony – 3/10

It was another appalling performance from the trickster. He does not deserve to start against Manchester City on Sunday.

Substitutes

Christian Eriksen – 8/10

The Denmark international pulled out a great save from the goalkeeper. A delicious cross to assist Maguire for the goal. His best game for a while.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5/10

Garnacho should have handed Man United the lead midway in the second half when Fernandes found him in space.

Victor Lindelof – 6/10

Fantastic last-ditch tackle to deny a shooting chance just before Maguire broke the deadlock.

Anthony Martial – N/A

Too late to rate.
