Manchester City are set to hijack Manchester United’s attempts to sign Aston Villa star Jack Grealish according to reports by the M.E.N.
United identified Grealish as a #2 target behind Jadon Sancho. As Sancho’s deal has stalled, Grealish is going off the books too.
That has led to Grealish being linked to other clubs, now including, City, according to The Athletic.
Speaking on The Athletic‘s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast, David Ornstein said: “My understanding is that actually, Manchester City has shown more interest than Manchester United at this point; we know that Aston Villa will want to keep him.
He added: “They may even want to sign him to a new contract. I think Grealish would be happy to move on for a Champions League club this summer. He’s given great service to Aston Villa, but the amount of money that Villa’s wealthy owners would want for him in the transfer fee may prevent that from happening.”
United hoped to get the Aston Villa captain at a cheaper price this summer. However, following Villa’s survival in the Premier League, they are not ready to lower their asking price. [source- M.E.N]
City are known to sign players proactively, unlike United. It seems like the Citizens will overtake the Red Devils once more- previously experienced on the Bernardo Silva transfer saga.
