Manchester United are set to be without six players for the Premier League curtain-raiser against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.
The Red Devils begin their top-flight campaign versus Wolves at Old Trafford and ahead of the game, Ten Hag has provided an injury update on five players.
Tyrell Malacia was not been involved throughout pre-season with an injury sustained last term, and the manager has said that his recovery will take ‘some time’.
The Dutch tactician added that Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo are also sidelined with injuries while Dean Henderson and Rasmus Hojlund are short of match fitness.
He told Manutd.com: “Malacia’s will take some time, the same as Amad and Kobbie, they are impact injuries. All the others, like Henderson, Hojlund are quite short notice but it will take a few weeks.”
Aside from the quintet, goalkeeper Tom Heaton has also been ruled out for a ‘few weeks’ after sustaining a calf injury. United confirmed the setback on Thursday.
United recently reached a verbal agreement for the sale of Harry Maguire to West Ham United, but Ten Hag has said that the former captain will be in the squad.
United will be aiming for a quick start to the season
The Red Devils had the worst possible start during the previous season. They lost successive games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, the latter by a 4-0 scoreline.
Despite this, the club made a terrific comeback to finish third in the league standings. The onus is now on making a better start to put themselves in the race for the top-flight title.
Wolves are currently an unsettled side, having just changed their manager. Ten Hag will want a strong performance from his players when the Midlands outfit make the trip to Old Trafford.
After the Wolves clash, United face Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal before the first international break. They host Brighton & Hove Albion in mid-September.
