Manchester United have had a productive transfer window with three signings thus far.
The focus has been on bolstering the club’s attack after an underwhelming Premier League campaign.
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon have been signed, but manager Ruben Amorim may want more additions to the squad ahead of the new season.
This may require player sales, and Alejandro Garnacho is one of those who could head for the exit door.
The Athletic today report that Chelsea have the Argentine on their radar, but have yet to make a formal move.
Garnacho ‘continues to wait’ for the Blues amid his preference to stay in the English top flight.
Chelsea could make a late move for Garnacho
The Blues have bolstered their forward ranks with Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens this summer, and they are planning an opening bid for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.
Despite this, the London giants retain an interest in Garnacho. With Simons capable of playing anywhere in attack, Garnacho is seen as a possible competitor for Gittens on the left wing.
In our view, a transfer could depend on another high-profile exit. The Blues have stepped up their pursuit of Simons after sanctioning the sale of Joao Felix to Saudi outfit Al-Nassr.
They could ramp up their pursuit of Garnacho once Christopher Nkunku heads for the exit door. The Frenchman is almost guaranteed to leave the Blues in search of regular game time.
United valued Garnacho at £70 million at the start of the year, but have now reduced their price to just £40m. An early deal would help the club speed up the process of signing a new striker.
The Red Devils have already identified their top two striker targets.
