Manchester United are prepared to make an irrefusable offer for Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 15).
The Red Devils are likely to sign a marquee central defender at the end of the season with the possibility of Raphael Varane leaving when his contract expires on June 30.
Bremer has been identified as the ideal signing and Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the Brazilian is a ‘fundamental reinforcement’ for United before next season.
Erik ten Hag’s side would be willing to table an offer which the Bianconeri can’t refuse. A fee in excess of €60 million would be hard to turn down for the Turin giants.
The 26-year-old has a clear ambition of playing in the Premier League sooner rather than later.
Bremer would be a top-notch acquisition for United
The former Torino man has established himself as one of the best central defenders in Serie A.
In the current campaign, he has had a passing accuracy of 87 per cent. The Brazilian has won 5.1 duels per game with 5.3 ball recoveries, four clearances and 1.6 tackles.
His aerial and physical presence are among his main strengths, and he would fit perfectly into manager Erik ten Hag’s requirements for a ‘physically strong‘ defender.
With Bremer harbouring the ambition of playing in the Premier League, a deal may not be difficult for United to pull off if they meet the demands of the Bianconeri.
Bremer could be seen as a replacement for Varane. The hierarchy have decided against triggering a one-year extension clause in his current €397,000-a-week contract.
No contract talks are planned at the moment. Even if a proposal is made, Varane may need to accept a significant pay-cut which looks unlikely amid interest from Al-Nassr.
