Man Utd willing to double Barcelona’s contract offer for Ronald Araujo

Manchester United are willing to double Barcelona’s contract offer for Ronald Araujo to sign him this summer, Spanish publication Sport reports.

The Red Devils are one of the top European clubs interested in the central defender, and it was recently claimed that they are the ‘strongest bidder‘ for his signature.

It is now reported that the club are keeping tabs on Araujo’s situation and are prepared to pay double of what the Blaugrana are offering to renew his current contract.

Our view:

United signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid last summer. It was predicted that he would boost the club’s prospects of winning the Premier League title.

However, that has hardly been the case. The Frenchman has put in quality displays, but has also struggled for consistency amid regular injuries hampering him.

Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have also had inconsistent spells. Bailly’s future in particular has been in doubt, and he could be replaced by a new signing.

Araujo has emerged as an option in recent weeks. The £31.5 million-rated star has yet to renew his contract expiring in June 2023, which could pave the way for his summer exit.

The 22-year-old has impressed with his all-round ability. He has completed 90 percent of his passes this term.

He has also won two aerial duels and one tackle per league game while chipping in with three goals.

His potential has caught the eye of several elite clubs. United are weighing up a possible approach but could face stiff competition from Chelsea and Liverpool for his services.
