Man Utd were keeping tabs on Neves and Bissouma on Saturday

Manchester United were keeping tabs on Ruben Neves and Yves Bissouma during Saturday’s Premier League encounter between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Red Devils are widely expected to pursue a defensive midfielder this summer. Nemanja Matic has already confirmed that he will be leaving at the end of the season while Paul Pogba could also make way when his contract expires on June 30.

A number of players have been linked over the past few weeks, but it appears incoming boss Erik ten Hag could be eyeing a midfield addition from the Premier League.

Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse was mentioned as a potential target yesterday, and Birmingham Mail now claim that a senior United scout was in attendance to watch Neves and Bissouma in action at the Molineux Stadium yesterday.

Our view:

Neves returned to action on Saturday after a six-week lay-off with a knee injury. He hardly made an impression before he was substituted at the interval with Brighton leading 1-0.

On the contrary, Bissouma produced another top showing for the Seagulls. He registered three successful tackles, and capped the performance with the third goal for Graham Potter’s side.

The Mali international has been linked with several elite clubs over the past few years. His displays in the wins over Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves should enhance the transfer interest.

Compared to Neves and Ward-Prowse, the 26-year-old would be a quality and cost-effective signing for United. His current deal with the Seagulls expires at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

The club reportedly snubbed an offer of around £25 million from Aston Villa in January, and United could prise him away for a similar figure during this summer’s transfer window.
