Man Utd ‘very interested’ in signing Barcelona defender Jules Kounde

Manchester United are very interested in signing Barcelona defender Jules Kounde during the summer transfer window, according to Sport (page 20).

The Red Devils are likely to sign a marquee centre-back this summer and they have already been linked with the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Gleison Bremer.

It is now reported by Sport that United are ‘very very interested’ in securing the services of Kounde, who could be sold by Barcelona amid their ongoing financial problems.

Sporting director Deco needs to sell at least two defenders. Kounde is one of those who could be sacrificed alongside Andreas Christensen to balance the club’s books.

Kounde’s versatility makes him a perfect signing for Man Utd

Raphael Varane’s future is currently uncertain beyond this season. His £340,000-a-week contract expires in June and United have decided against triggering the extension clause.

The Frenchman is reportedly ‘expected‘ to leave on a free transfer. In our view, Kounde would be a fabulous acquisition to replace his compatriot in the first-team squad.

The £51 million-rated star has a superb passing accuracy of 91 per cent this term. He has won 56 per cent of his duels with 2.7 clearances and 4.7 ball recoveries per league outing.

Kounde is a central defender, but he has played an equal number of games from right-back since his move to the Catalan giants from Sevilla in the summer of 2022.

His versatility would make him a perfect signing for United. The Red Devils are also searching for a new right-back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka potentially leaving this summer.

The 25-year-old has had an injury-plagued campaign. United are yet to open negotiations with him over a new deal beyond June 2025. Kounde could provide cover at right-back if required.
