Man Utd very attentive over Yannick Carrasco’s situation at Atletico Madrid

Manchester United are very attentive over Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco ahead of a possible transfer approach this summer, AS report.

The Belgium international has been a key player for manager Diego Simeone, but he has recently lost his place from the starting line-up.

His current deal with Atletico expires in June 2024, but AS claim that he is now more likely to leave them at the end of the current season.

Barcelona have a clause to sign him for €20 million this summer, but their lack of interest could see Atletico open the door for offers.

United are one of the clubs who are ‘very attentive’ over the Belgian and could take advantage if Barcelona don’t secure his services.

Carrasco link comes as a surprise

Carrasco is a left winger by trade. United currently have the position well covered with the presence of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

Jadon Sancho can also feature in the role and there appears no need to bolster the attacking position during this summer’s transfer window.

Hence, the speculation could be agent-driven such that Barcelona act and trigger the buy clause.

We don’t see any reason why United would be interested in Carrasco. He still possesses a superb work rate but he is no longer in his prime.

His goal contributions have also reduced drastically this season and it does not make sense for United to pursue his signature in the summer.

If the club want to bolster the attack, the focus should be on landing a marquee striker, considering Anthony Martial’s regular injury woes.

Martial is back on the sidelines with his fifth injury of the campaign and United should look to offload him before signing a quality young striker.
