Man Utd transfer update on £62.2m-rated midfielder

Manchester United have already completed the signings of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer and it looks as though we won’t stop there.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to rebuild the squad left behind by Jose Mourinho and has so far invested in youth players – both new signings aged 21.

One proven player that we have been strongly linked with in recent months is Sporting Club of Portugal superstar Bruno Fernandes.

The 25-year-old scored an incredible 20 goals and recorded 13 assists in 33 Portuguese Primeira Liga appearances last season, for a side that lost many of its star players the previous summer.

Fernandes is a regular in Portuguese national team and played a big part in them winning the inaugural UEFA Nations League earlier this summer.

Sporting are believed to want €70 million (£62.2m) for their star and could be a big upgrade on Paul Pogba in central midfield for us.

Should we be willing to meet the demands of Sporting CP, their president, Frederico Varandas, has been quoted on the radio as saying it could be the most expensive sale in the club’s history.

Varandas told Radio Observer (as quoted by the Express):

“It could be the most expensive sale of Sporting.

“The most expensive so far was João Mário, for €40m (£36m). There have been only talks for Bruno Fernandes, for now.”

Manchester United officials met with the player’s agent last month, but there have been no updates on whether we have made an official bid for the player as of yet. Bruno Fernandes still has four years left on his contract at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.

Varandas didn’t seem too confident the player will still be there next season:

“I can only say that if a player leaves that can earn us millions, we will be prepared to attack the market. Always in a sustained way.

“I want Bruno Fernandes to stay, but everyone knows the current situation.”

“It’s going to be difficult to keep him. He’s on vacation, we’ll see what happens.”

Bruno Fernandes would be an excellent signing if we can pull it off. We currently don’t have too many centre midfielders in the squad either.
