Man Utd to make loan offer for centre-back

We are now within the final 24 hours of the summer transfer window and Manchester United are still yet to wrap up a deal for a new centre-back.

Leicester City have rejected our approach for Harry Maguire, we are refusing to match Tottenham’s asking price and have also failed to come to an agreement with Bayern Munich over the possible signing of Jerome Boateng.

However, we are still trying to agree a deal with the Bundesliga champions for the latter.

Sky Sports understand that the 29-year-old is our number one target but only on a loan basis.  Apparently Jose Mourinho isn’t too keen on making the deal permanent because of the injuries Boateng has suffered over the past three seasons.  He’s missed 27 games in all during that time because of one injury or another.

Jerome Boateng only just made the cut for the World Cup squad this past summer after suffering a hamstring injury in April.  In the two games that he did play he was very poor.

The centre-back has already expressed his desire to leave the Allianz Arena this summer for a new challenge.  And who could blame him after winning the German league in six of the seven seasons he’s been with Bayern, as well as the 2013 Champions League.

I’m not a huge admirer of the former-Manchester player as he’s prone to making bad errors, but I wouldn’t be too against a loan deal considering how desperate Jose is to bring in a new centre-back this summer.  With time running out Boateng may be the player we bring in on deadline day.
