Sofyan Amrabat is keen on leaving Fiorentina amid interest from Manchester United this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 16).
The Morocco international has not travelled with the Serie A outfit for their pre-season friendlies against Newcastle and Nice at St James’ Park.
The midfielder is currently sidelined with a ‘minor foot problem’, but he remains eager to join a top club in Europe – most likely to be United.
Amrabat has confirmed to Fiorentina that he ‘wants to go’. United are also ‘ready’ to take him, but are yet to make an appropriate transfer offer.
The Serie A outfit are looking for €30 million for the 26-year-old, who was described as ‘extraordinary‘ by manager Luis Enrique at the World Cup.
United should make formal bid for Amrabat soon
Amrabat has made his mind up to join United, and the onus is on the club to secure an agreement.
Fiorentina are currently requesting €30m for the midfielder, but the Red Devils are likely to negotiate a lesser fee up front with possible bonuses.
A proposal could be made in the coming days depending on exits. Fred, Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay have all been linked with clubs.
The departure of one of them could see United step up their pursuit of Amrabat, who should provide strong competition to Casemiro next term.
Amrabat has not travelled to England with his Fiorentina teammates. The decision is justifiable as he may not want to play and risk a serious injury.
United start their Premier League campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14.
Manager Erik ten Hag may ideally want the midfielder signed in the lead-up to the curtain-raiser.
