Manchester United target Jadon Sancho netted a second half hat-trick in Borussia Dortmund’s 6-1 hammering of SC Paderborn on Sunday. It was the England international’s first start since the Bundesliga restarted a fortnight ago.
Borussia Dortmund were essentially eliminated from the title race on Tuesday when they were beaten 1-0 at home to Bayern Munich, leaving them seven points behind the runaway leaders.
Sancho featured for 45 minutes midweek as he continues to build up his fitness levels which appear to be back to 100% after Sunday’s performance away to Paderborn.
Lucien Favre’s side had been held 0-0 at half-time against the league’s bottom club before Thorgan Hazard opened the scoring 10 minutes after the break.
Jadon Sancho’s first goal was a tap-in three minutes after his side went ahead and shortly before the hour mark. The 20-year-old received a yellow card for removing his football shirt to reveal a message in honour of the recently murdered George Floyd.
Paderborn had halved the deficit with 20 minutes remaining courtesy of a penalty conceded by Emre Can, before Sancho produced a fine finish to make it 3-1 moments later.
Defenders Achraf Hakimi and Marcel Schmelzer added to the scoring before Sancho completed his hat-trick in the first minute of stoppage time. The forward raced through on goal with Leopold Zingerle before producing a powerful finish beyond the goalkeeper.
Manchester United continue to be linked to the young sensation but one has to wonder if today’s performance has increased his valuation further, particularly with the world watching on as the German Bundesliga is the only major football league currently back in action.
