Manchester United target Diogo Costa is likely to be sold during the summer transfer window amid Porto’s tight financial situation, according to Record.
The Portuguese has been regularly linked with the Red Devils and it was recently revealed that United scouts have been watching him closely at the Estadio do Dragao.
The club have yet to initiate any contact with the Primeira Liga outfit, but they have been handed a potential boost with Porto needing to balance their books.
Record claim that Porto have to recoup at least €50 million before investing and selling Costa this summer is the easiest way to meet their financial goals.
Will United sign Diogo Costa this summer?
Costa has been on the Red Devils’ radar for a long period of time but there are still doubts whether the club will make an approach to sign him this summer.
The 23-year-old signed a new contract before the World Cup which increased his release clause from €60m to €75m and Porto could hold out for the same.
Costa would be a brilliant long-term signing for United. He has a pass accuracy of over 76 per cent this term and has completed eight long balls per appearance.
The Portuguese is also gifted with brilliant reflexes. During the Champions League group stage, he created history by saving three penalties on the trot.
Despite this, United could pass on the opportunity to land him, considering David de Gea has had another fine season between the sticks for the club.
The Spanish star has been brilliant with several world-class saves. He recently kept United in the FA Cup quarter-final before Fulham’s moment of madness.
De Gea is not gifted when it comes to his distribution and mobility, but he has improved under Ten Hag. In our view, he could continue as the number one for another two seasons at least.
