Manchester United are close to completing a deal for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as the 21-year-old is at our Carrington training facilities today ahead of a medical prior to signing a six-year deal at Old Trafford.
The youngster would immediately be handed the starting right-back role following the departure of 33-year-old Antonio Valencia this summer.
Wan-Bissaka was excellent in his first full season with Crystal Palace in the Premier League, showing he was strong and good in defence, as well as getting forward to support the attack like a good modern day full-back.
One statistic that the defender excelled in was take-ons. In fact, no under-23 player in the Premier League this past season attempted more take-ons than our next signing:
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (61)
Diogo Jota (57)
James Maddison (50)
Ben Chilwell (49)
Yves Bissouma (47)
Given that three of the five names on the list are midfielders this is an excellent performance from the England under-21. The other defender on the list is Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, who is a regular in the senior England team himself.
Provided all goes through as expected and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is announced as a Manchester United player in the coming days, he will join Daniel James as our second summer signing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
