Manchester United are taking ‘concrete steps’ to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to Italian outlet La Nazione.
The Red Devils have already signed Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer, and they are now prioritising a deal for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.
However, the club are also monitoring Amrabat’s situation and La Nazione (via Fiorentina.it) claim that United are the only club ‘showing serious interest’.
Fiorentina currently value the Morocco international between €28-30 million, but United could ‘presumably’ making an offer of €25m including bonuses.
There is currently ‘distance’ between the valuations, but United should be optimistic over a deal.
United in pole position to sign Amrabat
The 26-year-old has an apparent desire to play in the Spanish top-flight, but neither Barcelona nor Atletico Madrid have made an approach for his services.
Barcelona are currently in a tight financial situation, and recently signed Oriol Romeu from Girona for €4m. The player gave up €500,000 in bonuses to join them.
Atletico, on the other hand, have cooled their pursuit. Hence, United are now in pole position to sign him, but an approach could be delayed until midfield departures.
Fred is expected to be on his way out, and he could be followed by Donny van de Beek through the exit door. The Dutch was left on the bench for the Arsenal friendly.
The exit of the duo would provide United with the much-needed financial boost to purchase Amrabat, who would be a top addition for the defensive midfield department.
Amrabat could be a serious competitor to Casemiro in the number six position. Last season, he completed 90 per cent of his passes, winning 1.3 tackles and 3.1 duels per game.
We won’t be surprised if Scott McTominay is also sold with the Moroccan’s arrival at Old Trafford. United should have sufficient depth with the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo.
