Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of Bruno Fernandes ahead of Thursday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, according to ESPN.
Fernandes picked up an ankle injury during the first half of the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday but he managed to carry on until extra time.
It is now reported that the Portuguese was spotted limping on his way out of Old Trafford and he remains doubtful to face Spurs on the road on Thursday night.
United are expected to assess his fitness to find out whether he can train ahead of the north London trip.
Fernandes could start on the bench vs Spurs
Fernandes’ form was unconvincing before the World Cup break but since the restart, he has been highly consistent with regular goal contributions.
The Portuguese has been terrific with his work rate and leadership skills and it would be a huge blow if he is unavailable to face Spurs on Thursday.
In our opinion, Fernandes will be given time to prove his fitness and he could at least make the bench if he is not fully fit to start against Spurs.
The £66 million-rated star has a good record against the north London club. He has registered three goals and one assist in his last five meetings.
United are currently in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League with a six-point lead over fifth-placed Spurs with two games in hand.
They have the opportunity to increase the gap in midweek and thereby diminish Spurs’ prospects of making the top four at the end of the season.
