Man Utd suffer transfer blow with Fabian Ruiz set to join PSG

Fabian Ruiz is an alleged transfer target for Manchester United

Manchester United have suffered a big transfer blow with Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz on his way to Paris Saint-Germain this month.

The Red Devils had recently identified Ruiz as an alternative to Frenkie de Jong, who has shown no desire to leave Barcelona this summer.

However, they have suffered a huge setback with Sky Sport Italy confirming that the Spaniard has now agreed terms with Paris Saint-Germain.

To add to that, negotiations are advanced between Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli, and Les Parisiens are set to meet the €30 million price tag.

United handed blow with Paris Saint-Germain’s move for Ruiz

United have been in regular contact with Ruiz’s representatives over the past few weeks. It was recently claimed that they made a low opening offer.

Napoli have always been clear that they would not sell him for less than €30m, and Les Parisiens seem to have won the race to sign him out of the blue.

Ruiz would have been a solid alternative to De Jong for United. He has similar strong attributes when it comes to distribution as well as ball control.

The Spaniard also offers more with his strong tackling skills and creativity. He registered 12 goal involvements during the past season for Napoli.

At €30m, a deal seemed a no-brainer for United despite him entering the final year of his contract.

Their decision to make a low-ball offer has now cost them. It remains to be seen whom they target next as Ibrahim Sangare has also signed a new PSV deal.

The only other reported midfield target has been Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, but the Serbian does not suit Erik ten Hag’s philosophy for multiple reasons.

He is not the most mobile of midfielders despite his physique. The 27-year-old is also average with his distribution – only an 81 per cent success rate last term.
