Man Utd suffer major setback with Lindelof & Martinez out for one month with injuries

Manchester United have suffered a major setback with Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez ruled out for at least a month with respective injuries.

Lindelof picked up a hamstring injury in the second half of the 1-1 Premier League draw versus Brentford. He was replaced by Lisandro Martinez after the hour mark.

Martinez managed to stay unscathed throughout the game, but the Argentine has now suffered another concern. He sustained a calf problem in training earlier today.

United have now confirmed that the duo will be out of action for at least a month. This is a huge blow for the club in the pursuit of Champions League football this term.

“Manchester United centre-backs Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for at least a month due to muscle injuries,” a statement on the club’s website read.

United suffered a setback last weekend after their 1-1 draw at Brentford. They dropped two valuable points and now face a huge uphill task to qualify for the Champions League.

A top-five finish could be sufficient to make the competition, but they need to leapfrog Spurs for that to happen. Prior to today’s game, there is an eight-point deficit between them.

With Lindelof and Martinez sidelined, much of the workload will be on Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane at the heart of the defence. The latter was substituted as a precaution last weekend.

In our view, the club’s medical staff must keep the experienced duo fit over the coming weeks. An injury for either could hamper their chances of ending the season on a high note.
