Man Utd still interested in signing Bayern star Alphonso Davies on a free transfer

Manchester United remain interested in signing one of Bundesliga’s best left-backs on a free transfer, according to journalist Christopher Michel.

The Red Devils have had plenty of concerns in the left-back department. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have yet to feature this season after injuries.

The duo have returned to team training ahead of the restart, but the club are actively on the look out for an upgrade under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim is expected to play with a 3-4-3 set-up and Michel claims that Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies continues to remain on the club’s summer wishlist.

The Canada international is considered as a ‘dream solution’ for the left wing-back role, but it won’t be easy to bring him to Old Trafford amid fierce competition.

Real Madrid and Barcelona, who are managed by former Bayern boss Hansi Flick, are also interested in signing Davies whose contract expires next summer.

Davies would be an outstanding signing for United

The 24-year-old has established himself as the first-choice left-back for Bayern since 2019.

He has been brilliant with his defensive work, but has also made goal contributions too. Davies has primarily played as a wide attacker for his country.

Looking at this season’s statistics, Davies has three assists in 15 outings. He has won 62% of his duels with almost two tackles and 6.5 recoveries per outing.

He has a passing accuracy of 91 percent with almost two successful dribbles per game. Davies has all the traits to succeed as a left wing-back under Amorim.

The ‘world-class‘ star has already turned down a weekly wage package of £191,000 at Bayern.

United will need to make Davies one of their highest earners to bring him to Old Trafford. Champions League football could also be key to convincing him.

The Red Devils are 13th in the Premier League, but they are only four points behind third-placed Chelsea and could turnaround their fortunes under Amorim.
