Man Utd steal a march on Liverpool by launching bid for La Liga star

Manchester United are looking to get one over on Premier League rivals Liverpool with a whopping bid for Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele, according to reports in Spain.

The 21-year-old is considered to be one of the most-exciting prospects in football but saw limited playing time at Camp Nou last season due to two injuries and the January signing of Philippe Coutinho in his position.

Now Spanish outlet Don Balon (via TeamTalk) are reporting that we are ready to make a mega player-plus-cash offer for the French international – a swap deal that includes Anthony Martial.

Our own French forward has seen limited game time under Jose Mourinho, particularly following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January, with Martial making only 36 Premier League starts over the past two seasons.

However, Barcelona did only sign Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund last summer in a deal that could reach up to £125 million.  Could the young forward really be set to make a third summer transfer in as many years?

Dembele made only 12 La Liga starts under Ernesto Valverde last season and has resulted in speculation that he could be on the move again before the start of the 2018-19 campaign.

Premier League rivals Liverpool have been strongly linked with Dembele, with reports last month claiming the Reds were close to agreeing a two-year loan deal for the Barcelona forward.

The Merseyside club are yet to replace Philippe Coutinho, whom they sold to Barcelona in January, so Jurgen Klopp is believed to be in the summer transfer window for an attacking player.

However, Don Balon believe we have stolen a match on Liverpool with a report that we have made an offer of £22 million plus Anthony Martial for Ousmane Dembele.  Martial’s time at Old Trafford is in serious doubt and has been widely expected to leave this summer.

We shall have to wait and see how things develop on this story as it sounds very exciting to us.
