Manchester United star Marcus Rashford ended his nine-game goal drought for club and country with a sublime strike against Italy last night.
The Three Lions trailed early against Luciano Spalletti’s side in their Euro 2024 qualifier, but they equalised before the break through Harry Kane’s penalty.
Jude Bellingham won the spot kick for the Three Lions and he also delivered the assist for Rashford on the counter-attack.
The Red Devils star was able to cut inside from the left flank before unleashing a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
A defensive mishap from the visitors allowed Kane to put the game to bed in the 77th minute.
With the victory, the Three Lions have booked their spot in next summer’s tournament with a couple of games to spare.
In United’s point of view, Rashford’s performance should be a huge positive.
The 25-year-old previously scored against Arsenal in early September. He ended a nine-game goal drought yesterday.
Aside from his goal, Rashford won five ground and aerial duels while completing two take-ons.
He had 45 touches with 21 successful passes and an impressive four attempts on goal.
The forward has looked short in confidence in the final third. Yesterday’s display could provide the momentum going forward, considering he was up against a difficult opponent.
United have had an indifferent start to the season with only 12 points from eight league games.
They have yet to register a point from their opening two Champions League group matches.
Hence, the club face a must-win period in the coming weeks. They will be in league action at Sheffield United on Saturday evening.
This will be followed by a European meeting against Copenhagen before the much-awaited Manchester derby – both with home advantage.
Rashford will have a huge role to play in those fixtures. The fans will be hoping that he can get back to finding the net regularly for United.
