Man Utd showing interest in signing Sporting star Goncalo Inacio – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United have an interest in signing Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio during this summer’s transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils are set to part ways with Raphael Varane on a free transfer. The Frenchman has announced that he will be leaving when his contract expires on June 30.

United are on the search for a right-footed centre-back to replace Varane, but Romano reports that the Red Devils could also pursue a left-footed option with Inacio topping their shortlist.

He said on his YouTube channel: “Goncalo Inacio is being scouted and monitored by Liverpool and Manchester United. These two clubs are showing interest.”

“Let’s see if they decided to start the proper negotiation, but the interest is there, the release clause is there.

“So Goncalo Inacio could be a really interesting situation ahead of the summer transfer window with many clubs around Europe looking for left-footed centre-backs.

“We know that Liverpool and Manchester United could be in the race for Goncalo Inacio this summer, so keep a close eye on that one.”

Man Utd’s move for Inacio could depend on player sales

The Red Devils ended the season on a high with FA Cup glory. This has guaranteed their spot in the group stage of the Europa League next term.

Despite this, the club are set to lose out on significant revenue without Champions League football and their pre-sales budget could be limited.

A right-footed centre-back could be the main priority for the Red Devils and any move for Inacio could depend on funds recouped from outgoings.

Inacio has been linked with a Premier League move for the past few years and he could be signed for his current release clause of around £51 million.

In our opinion, he would be a good player to provide competition for places to Lisandro Martinez, who has become injury-prone in his time at the club.

Inacio is a strong ball-playing centre-back, who has an aerial presence and likes to clear his lines.

His positioning has been a main strength of his game. Inacio would be a good acquisition for the Red Devils as he is only 22 and has room to develop further.

The Portuguese has also had a brilliant fitness record. He has missed only nine games since his breakthrough with Sporting during the 2020/21 season.
