Man Utd should replace Wan-Bissaka with Frimpong – face competition from Bayern

Manchester United look set for a busy summer transfer window irrespective of how the season ends.

A new right-back could be a top priority for the hierarchy with Aaron Wan-Bissaka about to enter the final year of his contract.

There have been no talks over a possible extension and he could be sold for a reasonable transfer fee amid his injury concerns.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has been linked with United for some time and he could be an ideal replacement for Wan-Bissaka.

The Dutchman signed a new deal with the Bundesliga leaders last year, but there is a release clause in the region of €40-45 million.

Bayern Munich have recently entered the pursuit but in our opinion, United have a good opportunity to lure the 23-year-old ace.

Frimpong could be lured with Manchester factor

The Netherlands international has developed into one of the best attacking full-backs.

Frimpong has generally operated from the right wing-back role for Leverkusen. This season, he has already registered a stunning tally of 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

Aside from his goal involvements, he has impressed with his distribution, ball recoveries and ability to win duels. His attacking attributes would suit the playing style under manager Erik ten Hag.

It is unclear whether Ten Hag will remain at the helm, but Frimpong fits into the club’s philosophy of playing attacking football. He could have a similar impact as Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Bayern are a lucrative destination for any Bundesliga-based star, but United have one key advantage that could persuade Frimpong. The Dutchman started off his youth career from Manchester.

He spent almost a decade in the ranks of Manchester City before his move to Celtic in 2019. The prospect of returning to familiar surroundings could play a big part in luring him this summer.
