Manchester United should make a formal bid for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund after speaking with intermediaries this weekend, according to Alfredo Pedulla.
The Red Devils have been busy this month with the signings of Mason Mount and Andre Onana. The latter could make his first appearance against Arsenal tonight.
United’s next priority should be a new centre-forward, and it is reported that signing Hojlund from Atalanta is an increasingly ‘concrete goal’ for the club in the coming days.
Pedulla reports that the Red Devils will hold talks with intermediaries over the weekend. An official bid of €60 million plus rich add-ons should be made from Monday onwards.
United should find out Atalanta’s stance on Hojlund
United manager Erik ten Hag has identified Hojlund as his priority striker target.
The club have already agreed personal terms with the Denmark international, but still need to convince Atalanta into accepting a transfer fee over the coming days.
We should get a clear idea over Atalanta’s stance on the player soon. It was recently claimed that the Serie A outfit want at least €90m to consider his departure.
The same was reiterated by manager Gian Piero Gasperini. Ten Hag believes Hojlund is the ‘perfect‘ profile to lead the attack, but United may not pay over the odds.
Hojlund has immense potential at the age of 20, but he is still unproven at the highest level, having had just one season in Europe’s top-five leagues in his career.
His strong attributes are his physical strength, aerial ability as well as his finishing. He could be a potent scorer in future, but he remains an emerging talent for now.
In our view, United may need to make more than one bid for Hojlund. They are unlikely to meet Atalanta’s price tag, and should seek to lower the valuation.
