Man Utd should explore deal for 18-goal German striker with Rasmus Hojlund on his way out

Manchester United are likely to enter the transfer market for a new striker this summer.

The Red Devils purchased Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig last summer. He has fared impressively in the back end of the season with 10 goals to his name.

The Slovenian ace has netted 12 goals over the course of his debut campaign and looks set to have a bright future ahead as the club’s first-choice striker.

However, United are bound to pursue a strong competitor for the future.

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has confirmed that the Serie A outfit are poised to sign Rasmus Hojlund permanently after his season-long loan deal from United.

The Naples outfit have an obligation to buy Hojlund for £38 million if they qualify for the Champions League, but the club plan to recruit him regardless of this condition.

Meanwhile, there is also the possibility that Joshua Zirkzee could head for the exit door amid the lack of playing time. Juventus are exploring a summer swoop for the Dutchman.

Hence, United will have plenty of funds to pursue a new marksman this summer, but the focus could be on recruiting a young striker with potential to play second fiddle to Sesko.

In our view, the club should explore a deal for Nicolo Tresoldi, who has made a huge impression at Club Brugge.

The German youth international signed for Brugge from Hannover last summer and has had a good season, with 18 goals and seven assists in 3,000 minutes across all competitions.

Tresoldi initially started the campaign as a regular off the bench, but has since established himself as a starter for Brugge, scoring against Barcelona and Atletico in the Champions League.

He may not be the tallest of strikers at 183cm, but he has won almost two aerial duels per game with his timing against imposing centre-backs. His performances have certainly not gone unnoticed.

Tuttomercato claim that Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, is already in contact with Brugge, and the Gunners are prepared to write a cheque for £26 million to bring Tresoldi to north London.

In our view, United must be proactive to beat the Gunners in the pursuit of the 21-year-old.

They could have an edge over the Premier League leaders, given the Gunners consider him as a third-choice striker behind Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz for the 2026/27 campaign.

United, on the other hand, could sign Tresoldi as an immediate backup to Sesko. He could be handed valuable minutes as part of the rotation with a more hectic schedule next term.

The Red Devils will play a maximum of just 40 matches this season. That number could increase to 60 or more if United progress deep in the Cup and European competitions in 2026/27.
