Man Utd set to sign £17.5m Antonio Valencia replacement

Manchester United have been linked to signing a couple of right-backs since the close of the January transfer window.

Current right-back and captain Antonio Valencia turns 33 over the summer and was rested for a couple of games towards the end of the season, suggesting that he is slowing down.

We don’t currently have an out-and-out backup for the Ecuadorian international as Victor Lindelof spent a couple of games in his place this past season and Matteo Darmian is expected to leave this summer.  Though youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah has completed his season-long loan at Crystal Palace.

It appears that we are closing in on a deal for Antonio Valencia’s long-term replacement at Manchester United as Jason Burt from the Telegraph has confirmed that we’re closing in on the €20 million (£17.5m) signing of Portugal Under-21 international Diogo Dalot from FC Porto.

Mr Burt Tweeted:

Diogo Dalot broke into the FC Porto first team earlier this past season, making six Portuguese Primeira Liga appearances at left-back.  However, he is usually deployed at right-back for the B team.

The 19-year-old’s performances earned him the FC Porto Young Player of the Year award back in October 2016.

According to Jason Burt we have simply matched the release clause in Dalot’s contract and have agreed terms with the youngster.  We’re just waiting for Manchester United to make an official announcement now.

Dalot offers pace bombing on from full-back and stands at 6’1″.
