Manchester United are set to miss out on signing Benjamin Pavard this summer with Bayern Munich deciding to keep him.
The Red Devils were interested in landing the Frenchman earlier this month after they verbally agreed to sell Harry Maguire to West Ham United.
However, Maguire’s refusal to accept personal terms with the Hammers, has stalled their transfer pursuit of Pavard.
The Red Devils have not completely ruled out a move, but Bayern have now made the decision to keep him in the squad.
Pavard’s contract expires in the summer of 2024, but the Bavarian giants have no plans of selling him, as per Florian Plettenberg.
Instead of Pavard, they are prepared to part ways with Josip Stanisic in the coming days.
Bayern make strange decision on Pavard
Pavard has been convinced to join the Red Devils by manager Erik ten Hag, but United don’t have the funds at the moment.
Inter Milan recently proposed to pay around €25 million for him, but it was reported that Bayern won’t accept less than €35m.
In our view, Bayern have made a strange decision to keep Pavard, considering they could lose him on a free transfer next year.
We believe it could be a tactic to persuade interested clubs including United and Arsenal to make offers close to their price tag.
For now, United can’t afford him without Maguire’s exit. With Financial Fair Play restrictions, the club’s hands are tied at the moment.
Ten Hag recently said that he is ‘very happy’ with Maguire in the squad, but the defender has not travelled to London for today’s game.
There could be a late twist to the story.
